Breast Implant Removal in Jacksonville, FL

After undergoing breast augmentation to improve the size and contour of the breasts, a few women may decide to have them taken out for a variety of factors. For the breast implant removal surgery, the implants are taken out and scar tissue might also need to be eliminated. Scar tissue is not uncommon after breast augmentation, and will need to be removed if it is affecting the form of the breasts or causing discomfort.

What is Breast Implant Removal?

Implant removal surgery can be utilized to correct a range of issues you may have after breast augmentation, such as scar tissue (capsular contracture), implant malfunction, and unhappiness with the breast implants. Sometimes, women might simply prefer their original breasts and want to restore their normal appearance. Regardless of the reason, breast implant removal can work to counteract the results of breast augmentation and when coupled with a breast lift, may restore a natural, desirable aesthetic look.

The Breast Implant Removal Procedure

When breast implant removal surgery is performed, the incision is made either around the nipple or beneath the breast. Your surgeon may also remove scar tissue that might have developed around the implant. Your surgeon will remove or replace the implant, and will then close the skin with sutures and dress the chest with surgical bandages.

The recovery time for breast implant removal will vary for each patient, depending upon the reconstruction required after surgery. Your doctor will provide post-operative instructions, and might also recommend additional procedures to help reduce scarring. For the first couple of weeks, you will experience swelling and bruising, and you must restrict strenuous exercise until otherwise permitted. However, we encourage you to stand and gradually move around, because this will help with blood flow. Optimal results can typically be seen approximately 4-6 months following the operation.

Additional Procedures

After the breast implants have been removed, your surgeon may perform a breast lift based upon the size of the former implants, as well as how much the skin has stretched. A breast lift can help get rid of excess or sagging skin, which could remain after implant removal. If you are wishing to return to your original breast size, implant removal surgery and a breast lift may create amazing results to get back the original look and feel of your breasts. There are also several choices to replace volume following implant removal to enhance the shape of your breasts, including a fat transfer.
