What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup — a treatment that refers to the art and science of applying pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. Microblading (also known as eyebrow embroidery, feathering, or etching) has gained a loyal following. As the name suggests, microblading uses a very small blade to deposit pigment under the skin, giving the appearance of hair. It is considered to be semi-permanent as compared to the traditional hair stroke techniques.

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup such as microblading helps women and men of all ages who want to look their best at all times. Anyone with sensitive skin or a makeup allergy, an active lifestyle, or someone who just wants to save time by making their morning routine a lot faster can benefit from permanent makeup. In addition, permanent makeup can also help anyone who has vision trouble or difficulty applying makeup after a stroke or other physical condition.

Is it Really Permanent?

No, permanent makeup isn’t really permanent. Although we use the finest permanent makeup products/pigments, they will soften and fade in color over time, typically 1-5 years. Environmental exposure, anti-aging creams, the sun, sweating, tanning beds, and natural aging all contribute to color fading.

It is recommended to get color boosts to freshen up your permanent makeup to maintain its natural look. Remember that a typical tattoo is done with ink, while permanent makeup is done with pigment — which is very different. This can be a good thing, because you may realize that the colors and look you loved at 35 aren’t what you want at 50.

“I am writing this review after my appointments with Alison. I had my eyeliner and eyebrows done, and I can’t say enough about her and her work. she explained the process of both procedures in great detail and made me feel at ease through both procedures. Not only is she an amazing aesthetician, but she is an amazing person with a wonderful personality. I will and have referred many people to her.”

Microblading Treatment Details

On the day of your first microblading appointment, please expect for it to be approximately two hours long. This is a very thorough appointment during which Alison will work with you to design a customized treatment plan specific to your personal style.

A topical cream is applied for all procedures to maximize comfort. If you know you have an extremely low pain tolerance, other methods are available to add additional comfort.

With microblading, the first step is to take a photo and decide on the color. An experienced technician is able to select the right color to match the existing hairs (if any), as well as one to compliment your skin tone. Alison will apply the chosen color onto your eyebrows to let you try on your color so you can understand what your final results will look like. Once the color selection is made, Alison will work with you to create the exact shape, symmetry, and style you are seeking.

The procedure will begin with you lying back on a spa table while listening to soft, relaxing music. This part takes about an hour. The depositing of the pigment is a very detailed process.

The appearance of fuller eyebrows is created using an instrument called a “nanoblade”. It is used to make tiny, stroke-like cuts (that are so fine that they resemble hairs) directly onto the eyebrow area to deposit pigment into the top layers of skin.

Recovery and Results

Initially the brows will look almost too dark, but they will fade significantly over a two-week period. It is absolutely crucial to have a touch-up done, as it is very difficult to predict how well the skin will retain the pigment.

You may experience puffiness or swelling for the first 1-3 days, and total recovery time is usually 7-10 days.  You will be instructed to keep ointment on the treated areas during that time. Although you may not choose to, some patients return to work the same day.

Results last anywhere from 11-18 months, depending on different factors affecting the procedure. However, a touch-up once a year is recommended to retain the shape and saturation of pigment.
