October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But, breast cancer awareness is a year-round commitment to Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery. Breast health is critical to every woman’s overall well-being. As a patient, your health is important to us. We know the value of caring for our bodies. Let this letter serve as a reminder to perform your monthly self-exams. We would like to also take this opportunity to remind you of a few key points when performing your self-exam. Always examine your breasts around the same time each month. Your cycle can affect your breasts, so keep that in mind when setting a date. Keep a journal of your exams. This ensures that you will remember if changes occur. Never hesitate to discuss any changes you notice in your breasts with your doctor. Changes in your breasts can happen at any time. Early detection of those changes can be very important. Mammograms are also very important. Current American Cancer Society guidelines call for annual screening mammography beginning at age 40. Women with a family history of breast cancer may benefit from earlier screening and should discuss this with their physician. If you have had cosmetic breast surgery, please inform the technician performing your mammogram. Remember, caring for your body is a great way to help ensure a happy and healthy future. Our staff at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery is always available to answer any questions that you may have. Sincerely,   The Surgeons of Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery
